2006 – present

After many turbulent years, order was finally restored at Playa Tropical. The next twenty years focused on maintaining the buildings, keeping the finances sound – and on the many Danes who kept returning, winter after winter.

Order restored

In May 2005, the two Spanish presidents stepped down following pressure from Club Andalucia and from the Spanish and British owners. The club's chairman, Preben Mikkelsen, was elected president of Block 2 – the second time in history that Playa Tropical had a Danish president. From that point on, a thorough clean-up of accounts, debts and maintenance got underway.

At the same time, the town was constructing the underground car park beneath Paseo de Velilla, which today sits directly in front of Playa Tropical (see Parking).

The euro, motorways and changing times

The peseta had been replaced by the euro in 2002, and the daily service charge of 500 pesetas had become 3.01 € (≈ 22,45 kr.). Travelling down also became much easier: in 2015, the A-7 motorway along Costa Tropical was completed, avoiding the many twists and turns of the old N-340 coastal road.

The buildings get refurbished

In the years around 2020, works were carried out on the buildings time and again. Among other improvements, the pool was refurbished with new tiles, a new pump and solar-powered showers, the garden paths and surrounding surfaces were redone, balcony lights were replaced, and all ceiling fans were inspected. The architect presented plans for a major refurbishment of the blocks.

After the pandemic

The Covid pandemic also left its mark on Playa Tropical. Afterwards, utility and running costs rose sharply – according to the owners' association, by over 25% between 2019 and 2024. Consequently, several prices were raised from 2025, including the daily charge for utilities, storage room hire, extra cleaning and linen changes.

Club Andalucia's final years

The club continued holding general meetings across Denmark – in Fredericia, Køge and Roskilde – and had around 160 members in 2024. However, it grew increasingly difficult to find people willing to step up to the board. In 2023, the club lost its honorary member Preben Mikkelsen, who for many years had chronicled the history of Playa Tropical and the club – the very history you can read on these pages.

In 2026, the general meeting decided to dissolve Club Andalucia after 57 years. This website was created to ensure that the history, photographs and practical knowledge are not lost along with the club.
