Speed camera

Almucar has fixed speed cameras on the coastal roads - one of them right by the Aquatropic water park on the road between Playa Tropical and the town. They stand as tall, grey pillars on the pavement and photograph cars, and the fines are hefty.

Fact-checked 19-10-2026 against OpenStreetMap and local guides. The cameras may be switched off, moved or supplemented with mobile checks - always follow the signs.

Where are the cameras located?

In 2010, the municipality installed three cameras along the coastal roads, all in 30 km/h zones. In addition, there are DGT checks on the motorway.

  1. Paseo Reina Sofa by Aquatropic - the closest one, approx. 600 metres from Playa Tropical towards the town. The pillar stands on the landward side of the road, just after the bend by the water park, and photographs in both directions. The stretch is a low-speed zone - check the signs.
  2. Avenida Costa del Sol by Hotel Albayzn del Mar - on the coastal road west of the town, opposite the hotel. The limit is 30 km/h. A local guide has reported it out of action, but assume it is working.
  3. Paseo Andrs Segovia in La Herradura - the coastal road at La Herradura, heading towards Nerja. The limit is 30 km/h.
  4. The A-7 motorway at the La Herradura exit - just east of the exit. The limit here is 100 km/h.

What is the speed limit?

The stretch is a low-speed zone. There have previously been signs for 30 km/h, but a local guide also mentions lower limits. Look for the signs and slow down in good time.

Save your money: Keep your speed down along the entire stretch along the beach – there are pedestrians and cyclists everywhere.

How much is a speeding fine?

Over speed byFineWith discountPoints
Up to 20 km/h100 € (≈ 746 kr.)50 € (≈ 373 kr.)0
21–30 km/h300 € (≈ 2,238 kr.)150 € (≈ 1,119 kr.)2
31–40 km/h400 € (≈ 2,984 kr.)200 € (≈ 1,492 kr.)4
41–50 km/h500 € (≈ 3,730 kr.)250 € (≈ 1,865 kr.)6
Over 50 km/h600 € (≈ 4,476 kr.)300 € (≈ 2,238 kr.)6

On roads with a limit above 50 km/h, the first steps are slightly wider. If you drive 60 km/h too fast in town or 80 km/h too fast on a country road, it is a criminal case – not a fine.

  • Half price for prompt payment: If you pay within 20 days, you get a 50% discount (pronto pago). In return, you lose the right to appeal.
  • Fines from municipal cameras – e.g. by Aquatropic – are issued by the municipality; fines from the police on the roads are issued by the Spanish traffic authority DGT. Follow the payment instructions on the fine.

How to pay

  1. Online at DGT: Go to sede.dgt.gob.es → "Multas" → pay by card. You will need the fine number (número de expediente or boletín). This can also be done via the DGT app miDGT.
  2. Municipal fines are paid via the web address or account stated on the fine.
  3. Bank or post office (Correos) in Spain with the fine in hand.
  4. Beware of scams: False text messages and emails are circulating in the name of DGT. Never click on links in a text message – look up the fine yourself at sede.dgt.gob.es.

Stopped by the police?

If you do not live permanently in Spain, the police can demand that you pay the fine immediately – in cash or by card, and with the half-price discount. If you cannot pay, the car can be impounded until the fine is paid. Therefore, always carry a payment card with you.

Danish cars and hire cars

When does it arrive?Typically a few weeks or months after the trip – by post, in Spanish. The hire company charges an administration fee to your card (typically 30–50 € (≈ 373 kr.)) shortly afterwards. The actual fine arrives afterwards by post.

The cheapest option is to avoid it: Spain has many fixed cameras, and the police also measure speed from helicopters and with drones. Follow the signs – especially on the stretch along the beach and on the A-7.
