Our experience: winter, spring and autumn
From January to April and from September to November, there are pleasant temperatures of 1524 degrees during the day, plenty of sun and space on the beach and in town. The Spaniards are at home, prices are low, and the town is still lively: the markets are running, restaurants are open, and the Danish club has its season with Friday meet-ups and activities.
- JanuaryMarch: mild days around 1416 degrees and 9½11 hours of sunshine a day. Perfect for walks, town trips and long lunches in the sun. Carnival in February.
- April: spring is underway. Easter with the processions is an experience but also a busy week with many Spaniards.
- September: the sea is still over 21 degrees, and the summer bus runs until midnight until 15 September. Festival in the San Miguel neighbourhood beneath the castle.
- OctoberNovember: 1722 degrees in the air, 1820 in the sea and still 1011 hours of sunshine a day.
The price is in your favour: A full month at Playa Tropical costs 600 € (≈ 4,476 kr.) from October to May compared to 650 € (≈ 4,849 kr.) for a single week in August (see Rent an apartment).

Climate data: average over many years, measured in the shade. "–" = we have not found reliable figures for the month. The assessment is based on our own experience.
Why the weather forecast can be deceptive
Experience at Playa Tropical shows that the weather forecast for Almuñécar almost always sits around 10 degrees below what you actually feel. The reason is that forecasts and climate data measure temperatures in the shade. Out in the sun, sheltered by the mountains and sitting on a sea-facing balcony, it feels far warmer – meaning a January day of "14 degrees" can easily be short-sleeve weather on the terrace.
Summer: MayAugust
June, July and August are warm often too warm for long walks or sitting outside in the middle of the day. The Spaniards spend their holidays on the coast, beaches are full, and you have to pay to park at Velilla from 1 July to 31 August. On the other hand, there is a jazz festival in Parque El Majuelo at the end of July (in 2026: 2126 July) and the town's major festival for the Virgen de la Antigua around 915 August with a boat procession and fireworks over the sea. If you are coming in the summer, book well in advance and expect high-season prices.
Good to know about the low season
Some beach bars, tour operators and activities have shorter opening hours or are closed in the winter, so check before you go. The sea is 1517 degrees only for the brave.
